within the 15th Annual IEEE International Conference and Workshop on the Engineering of Computer Based Systems (ECBS2008). The conference and associated workshops will be held in the Odyssey Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland, from 31 March to 4 April 2008.

Call for Papers

Successful application of model based development in domains like business information systems or embedded systems has demonstrated its practical relevance. However,
with the shift to complex models with a long-term evolution, issues related to the reuse of models gain importance for practical application of model based development, including partitioning and maintaining models and managing their change. Adequate modelling techniques must

support a modularization of models into different views and levels of abstractions
ease localized changes without disturbing the integrity of the mode
enable analysing the impact of changes on the model as a whole
facilitate versioning (parts of) models maintaining the overall consistency
integrate profiles supporting specific application domains (e.g., automation, business processes, web services)

to provide a practical application of model based development.

This workshop focuses on the scientific and practical aspects of model based development (models, processes, methods, and tools) for supporting the construction of computer based systems, with a focus on evolution and management of model. Topics of the workshop include:

Model evolution and maintenance
Model versioning and product lines of models
Model transformation and reengineering
Model based validation and verification
Models in the system engineering process
Model partitioning in relation to system architecture and project structure
Integration of different models
Tool support for model based development
Case studies and application of model based development
Experiences of using models and relating models with their applications in the real-world development process.

Format:

To enable a maximum of interaction and discussion between the participants, the workshop will be held as a combination of two parts. First, the full papers are presented including a short discussion after each presentation. In the second part, short position statements are given, as introduction to a panel discussion by the speakers, to initiate a workshop discussion with all attendees.

Submission:

To support the workshop character, three classes of contributions are sought:

Full papers as regular technical contributions (6 to max 10 pages, IEEE Computer Society Format) to be reviewed in a double-blind reviewing process and published in the conference proceedings upon acceptance.
Industrial research and experience reports (4 to max 10 pages, IEEE Computer Society Format) to be reviewed in a double-blind reviewing process and published in the conference proceedings upon acceptance.
Position papers as short problem statements, research questions, or experience reports may be 2 to 10 pages in the same format. They will be accepted if they contribute to the goals of the workshop, especially if they inspire the workshop discussions. They will be published online using a permalink reachable from the MBD workshop website.
